NATURE'S ICE PALACE in the Hintertux Glacier
Reopening on November 3rd, 2008 Mysterious ice formations, glittering ice crystals in a legendary setting...experience the NATURE ICE PALAST in the Hintertux Glacier! Step into a sparkling world and be enchanted by the beauty and purity of nature. Then you know how your voice sounds surrounded by thousands of cubic meters of ice?
The icy journey begins just 200 m from the highest point on the Hintertux Glacier. A safe path leads from the vantage point on the Frozen Wall (3,250 m), with one of the most beautiful panoramic views over the Zillertal mountains, to the gates of the palace. After a thorough inspection of the equipment (helmet, belt with 2 safety loops), the path runs by handrail through the entire system, which was created without human intervention. The entrance hall, clad in mystical glacier blue, is the first stop on the tour. The variety of the turquoise-blue play of colors offers an experience for the eye alone. Only natural sunlight is needed to bathe the entire hall in blue, as only shades of blue are reflected by the ice.
The crystal chamber that follows houses sparkling ice crystals of all sizes and shapes. They are constantly changing due to the supply of moisture and temperature differences. It will be interesting to see how the development progresses in the coming weeks and months. A special feature of the crystal chamber is its floor, because a frozen glacial lake forms the transition to the blue chamber and the red-lit ice chapel. The highlight of the visit is the actual "Ice Palace", around 25 m below the perfectly groomed ski slopes. You will be amazed by its impressive height of 15 meters and its flawless ice formations! Is there a more creative master builder than nature?
The most curious glacier visitors - children - can admire this natural phenomenon from the age of 8 (accompanied by a parent). Special mountaineering skills are not necessary and even with ski boots, the tour can be managed without any problems.
Roman Erler's team from Natursport Tirol will be on hand with help and advice and will explain the topic of "glaciology".
